Sounds like you really do need to run chkdsk. Boot the Recovery Console from your XP CD and run chkdsk c: /f from there. Run it several times if necessary until it comes back with no errors. Then boot as normal and run SFC /SCANNOW as Carol mentioned.


Repair install WinXP Clean install WinXP
