Programs don't run properly

My boyfriend did a virus scan and the file xvqpjmz.exe showed up as a virus. He couldn't
get rid of it through the virus scanner and so he went in manually to change how
it would run. Now when he tries to run any kind of program, the program that the
virus file runs on shows up instead. He has tried to find the file to change it again
but he can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?
