Some video graphics cards have application profiles stored in a database. I guess intended for users who play a lot of different games requiring different and varied graphics card settings. My Nvidia card is one like that. I don't know if it works with WMP. Still, there's the extra step of going to the graphics card GUI to select your app before you run it.
