re: sound device error Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 7:39 pm Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Marian (3 messages posted) I have had XP SP2 installed for about 8-9 months now and my sound just died 5 days ago -- after a Windows Update for .Net Framework. (hmmm... I wonder...) I have an ASUS 4P4-800 Deluxe mobo with onboard SoundMax audio. After messing around with it from Mon evening to Tues afternoon, I figured it was the onboard audio... so I ordered a sound card (the Turtle Beach Montego DDL since I have had problems with Creative in the past -- and I got a good price!). Anyway, the same problems came up. The driver installed, but not started. Strange though that Windows Media Player just did it's thing when I loaded it, the video moved but no sound! MusicMatch gave me an error though. The PnP SW Emulator is there, so I will be trying King's solution first and then Ven's if the first fails. (Although I do not have all the same audio devices he lists, I guess the standards such as audio codec, etc should be dealt with in the same manner.) In advance, I would like to thank you all for your posts. I, as many others have said, can not believe that the hardware and software manufacturers don't give these sane suggestions to the users! And thank you to the Annoyances.org people for having this website! I will be back in the next few days to post an update on what worked/didn't work -- hopefully one of the fixes will work!
