Go into Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, then in the new window that
opens up, go to the "Sounds" tab and select Windows Default as the scheme within
the available pulldown menu. This will cause you to lose your current configuration
unless you save it, but if you're already as annoyed with the beep as you are now,
you wouldn't care less.
