LoL! I can't believe this thread is still alive. Anyway here goes.
dwwin.exe is DrWatson for Windows. DrWatson is an integral part of Windows and has
been for years. It reports errors and provides rudimentary diagnostics.
If you get the errormessage as described when you shut down windows it is because
an error occurs at shutdown. This is picked up by DrWatson (dwwwin) but because windows
is shutting down DrWatson fails to start, hence the errormessage.
I have this problem myself, and the questions to ask is: "have I made any changes
to my PC recently?". Well I have. I installed new graphics drivers, iPod software,
an update of Steam and CounterStrike Source. My job now is to track down which of
these changes cause the error on shutdown. One way could be to restore the system
to a previous known good configuration. Another way could be to uninstall or undo
recent changes one by one until the problem is solved. A third way could be to run
some repair software, for example, notably, Norton WinDoctor, to fix any registry
problems that may cause the error.
In other words, the dwwin error is just a symptom of a different underlying problem
and not the problem itself. Preventing yourself from sneezing will not cure your
cold ;)
