Disabling the BIOS antivirus also fixed my PC problem. It would simply turn off the
video and ignore network packets though the power was still on.
Booting into safe mode showed it hung (or froze) during the load of Mup.sys.
Thank you for sharing that insight - it has resolved a problem that seemed neither
to manifest itself as a hardware problem (failing component) or a software problem.
