The flashing icon means that some other computer tried to connect to yours on several
different TCP ports to see if they are opened. This is called "port scanning" and
caused by a worm (or hacker, but this is rare) looking for vulnerabilities or backdoors.
Your IP address was picked up randomly; some worms are doing this continuously. Not
something to be worried about, just SPF's way to say "I'm here and doing my job".
I'll try to describe in detail how to create those advanced rules. First, open the
"advanced rules" list, click Add, give it a name, let's say "M$ UDP" (because it's
for microsoftish ports and UDP as protocol), move to the "Ports and Protocols" tab,
select UDP as protocol, leave "remote ports" empty, copy/paste the list below in
"local ports" and set traffic direction to "incoming":
135,137-139,445,500,1024-1030,1900,4500,5000
Leave "remote ports" empty (meaning "any"). The other one is similar except the protocol
(TCP).
You can see what these ports are on Steve Gibson's site, here is 135 and you can enter another number and click "Jump".
