Wireless card creates 100% CPU usage

I have a strange problem, if I slot my Philips wireless card into my laptop, this will immediately send my CPU usage to 100%. I have tried reinstalling the software - during this process I noticed that even without the software installed, when I inserted the card my CPU usage moved to 100%. This will usually take the form of simply "SYSTEM" when I look in my task manager. No matter what combination of tasks I have running, the CPU usage will always stick at 100% I have tried Adware removal, Norton scans, registry fixes but so far have not been lucky. Anybody have any suggestions? I have tried another wireless card - same problem!
