My Dell Dimension 4100 is seriously broke, continually reboots when I try to boot
XP Pro.
Get a blue screen STOP when I try to boot my BartPE CD.
When I try to boot the Symantec Recover Disk, it loads and gets as far as the "Please
wait" message, then the screen clears and stays dark, don't get anything more.
If I boot my XP Install CD, it gets to the point where it says press F6 is you need
to install a 3rd party SCSI driver, then the info line at the bottom of the screen
displays garbage, random characters and glyphs, then I get a message that says file
\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
I've run the built in DELL IDE diagnostic (Ctr+Alt+D when Dell logo first appears)
and drive 0 and 1 both passed.
Also, when the system reboots while XP is booting, I end up with the long, slow boot
where the memory counts up to 512MB, even though I've set it many times to Quick
boot.
I've removed both 256MB sticks of ram, one at a time and the symptoms did not change.
I'm going to pull all other cards except my ATI Radeon and see what happens.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
Repair install WinXP /
Clean install WinXP
