Hey...! I fixed it! All I did was go into--->
start..settings...control panel...Sound Audio devices
Then click the Hardware Tab..I then went to the (2nd) device driver ( C-Media AC97)
and pressed the Property...Driver...Roll Back Driver
Problem solved! Sound is back! The driver reverted to a different name (RealTek 97)
but who cares...it works!
Hope this helps any one with the same problem...
