When an on-board video shares the system RAM it is known as inclusive, or shared.
When the video RAM is separate from the system RAM it is known as exclusive (not
shared).
There are often settings in the BIOS which will allow you to return RAM shared by
the video for use by the system.
E.G. 512 MB of system RAM less 64 MB used for the video = 448 MB (Packard-Bell iMedia
5050)
If you fit a 64 MB video card you can usually alter the settings in the BIOS to increase
the system RAM to it's full 512 MB.
It is always better to have separate video RAM, if the design will allow for it.
