Similar problem; previous suggestions not working Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 10:55 pm Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Jessie (1 messages posted) I'm thrilled to have found this thread because it means I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, but I'm still frustrated because the suggestions above haven't worked for me. My modem is listed as uninstalled; the device manager is empty except in safe mode; and only COM1 is listed, though my modem is supposedly in COM4. I'm on a Compaq Presario 7AP195 that originally had Windows 98 but was upgraded to XP Home about two years ago. The modem worked beautifully until yesterday evening, when I installed a wireless USB adaptor. The adaptor works & I can access a wireless network, but the modem is no more. If any Presario users have had this same problem, I'd love to hear your solutions!
