Well I went thru all the tips/tricks/advice/suggestions, too and I never thought
to heed the advice to execute that apropos fix because it was never detected on my
computer and I was running the virus software every hour practically trying to fix
this device manager/missing network icons dilema, and I ran spyware too- at least
3 versions of various ones- again nothing showed up. I removed updates, no change-
and then when I was at the end of my thoughts and ready to do factory restore, I
said let me try that apropos fix- what harm can it do- if it isn't there- it isn't
going to try and repair it- if it IS there, maybe something good will come from trying
to fix it, right?
Well, I booted up in safe mode- and ran the file- and as it was going thru it's thing-
I noticed there was this one filename it removed called s2goin...exe and I recognized
that title as it kept saying that was trying to access my computer- in a few different
error messages that I had got recently.
Well, when I had to reboot in normal mode when it was done doing it's "fix", I figured
that there wouldn't be no change, I am so used to having nothing work at this point-
LOL! But lo and behold, device manager is back to normal! The network icon in system
tray with the red X is there, but I still can't see/find my cox cable icon in network
folder.
I will consider myself lucky right now to have most of everything back the way it
should be though. I will work on the network folder later- and I am also showing
errors in Norton as well, auto protect will not allow me to set it ON.
I hope everyone reading this who's had no luck might also want to try that apropos
fix, it is in this thread and there was a link for the file.
THANKS to the person who posted it, I cannot say thank you enough, and I want to
go back and find out who you are. I owe you a little present!
Hugs to you all, Andrea C
