I had the missing icon problem for a couple of weeks. Mainly the network icon would be missing. Sometimes it would take 3-4 reboots to get the network working. The problem seemed to come out of nowhere; the computer had been working just fine until this nonsense. Anyway, I tried each and every suggested fix. None of them worked. Then I was re-reading the thread, and noticed I hadn't tried the Startdelay program. So I set it to start everything with a 2 second delay between each. BINGO!!! Another mission accomplished.
