Registry Scrubbers For the Win.

Using a registry cleaning program (Such as Clean My PC Registry Cleaner, which is
not free, I will point out) did a bang up job on cleaning it out. It seems like there
are two problem groups here. An error caused by the Microsoft KB fix, and another
caused by Apropos and/or some other nasty adware bugs. I got this on a computer that
had some real nasty ones but couldn't figure out why. Finally just used a registry
scrubber to see what it did, low and behold, it removed the entries, and now I can
access the internet on said laptop so I can download updates for the spyware cleanup
tools.
If you don't have the KB in question installed, and you're lacking network connections
and such, I strongly suggest trying a registry scrubber. It may not work after reboot,
but it will at least give you a chance. RegScrubXP should be free and might work.
Anyways, thanks to all of you who helped me figure out where to aim my death rays
on this one.
