Well, they get it by searching. That's how all these posters are coming to this
old thread, which as you noted, started out with a problem due to reasons that were
not malware, and has now morphed into something of an anti-malware thread. The compilation
I mentioned I've worked up has 9 possible solutions to the blank device manager problem;
in time, it would be picked up by search engines regardless of how posted (as a new
thread, or in reply to a ccomplaint).
And I guess that's why the forum doesn't close and archive a thread like this, especially
when people currently are posting to it. If closed, there wouldn't be the benefit
of one continuous thread to review (which while long, still is better than multitudinous
threads dealing with various aspects of the problem).

But as you know, they don't always, and frankly with a thread as long as this one,
I don't blame readers for being reluctant to plow through each post. Just for this
thread to load, or to move to another posted message, is a wait.
