1) The greyed-out buttons for the Plug & Play service are typical. I assume that
service is started and set for automatic startup type on your computer?
2) I assume you don't get any on-screen error message when you open the device
manager?
3) Did you investigate the started and startup status of your other Windows services,
as mentioned in the thread? If need more detail, post back.
4) Does your device manager window show the computer icon and name, but no devices,
or is the window completely blank (showing not even the computer icon and name)?
5) To confirm: do the security permissions for your registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
meet these requirements?
-- the group "Everyone" should be listed and have just "Read" permissions.
-- the user "SYSTEM" should be listed and have "Full Control" and "Read" permissions.
6) Have you looked for corruption in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
?
If you need more detail on this, post back.
7) Have you checked (in Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs) if you have MS
Win Update 905749, and if so, removed it? Ditto for Context Plus?
8) Did you try the Apropos removal fix mentioned? Again, post back if need more
detail.
