hi thanks a bunch for your reply, here is some info i missed before:
1)"plug n play" has started and set for automatic startup type.
2)i did not get any error message when open the device manager
3)sorry i didnt investigate any other service than plug n play, but the thread you
metioned which is?
4)the device manager window is completely blank (not even showing the computer icon
and name)
5)security permissions for registry key confirmed, everything is exactly the same.
6)please give me further information about how to look up corrupted registry in enum.
7)yes i have win update 905749 installed on the same date(5th dec) my device manager
disappeared. the problem is still there when uninstalled patch.
8)i have used apropos to fix without success.
