Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this - I am yet another person suffering
this infuriating problem. I think for me using the early tip of 'log-off and on again'
(which works for me ) is just fine. anyway what I wanted to add to the melting pot
was the observation that I have read, on the well-respected Gibson Research Corp
site, that it is a positively good thing to disable UPnP for security reasons. That's
quite an old observation by them, but they haven't taken it down, so perhaps its'
still valid even post-SP2. For what it's worth ,the link is http://www.grc.com/freepopular.htm
