Mice, trackball or otherwise, get dirty. Usually there is a buildup of dirt/hair
on the rollers that control the x and y movements. Remove the ball, clean the rollers
well, put back together and see if that fixes it. If not try a new mouse or try the
trackball in another computer as suggested.
Repair install WinXP /
