Yes I realize that was 7 months ago. I have avoided standby since then because of
the problems it causes. When I reinstalled I was using a version of XP provided by
my university. I am not sure what drivers it did/didn't have. In installed other
drivers from my Dell driver CD that came with my computer. I seem to remember I only
installed the ones I thought were important. What sort of driver would affect the
computer's ability to 'standby' correctly? I don't even know where to start. Are
there specific power management or similar drivers? I will visit the Dell driver
site and see what I find. Thanks for the help.

PS- Hibernation now works fine.
