On my Windows XP computer, I found that explorer.exe would crash upon starting whenever
there was another explorer.exe running. It didn't matter which folder the explorer
was exploring. The second one to start always crashed. Every time the explorer
crashed, the desktop would restart.
I looked in the Application log and found the following error message:
Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module yt.dll,
version 2005.11.4.1, fault address 0x0000ddca.
Based on this, I uninstalled Yahoo! Toolbar, and the problem went away.
