Microphone keeps adjusting its volume

My microphone keeps automatically adjusting its volumen when I speak in the microphone...its
making everything in the background way to loud for others im talking to. when i
lower the microphone volume again it just slides back up as soon as i start speaking...any
help would be greatly appreciated
