Recovery Console as Boot Option

Am using XP Home. Installed the Recovery Console as a startup option per WINDOWS ANNOYANCES FOR GEEKS, page 348 yesterday. On startup, I get the choice of starting normal or with Recovery Console, but screen hangs up with message "recovery console starting" with some strange graphics. Should I be able to startup in Recovery Console mode with Xp Home? I am the only user of this computer and have Administrative privileges. Thanks for any suggestions. Harold
