Eureka! Thank you! I didn't think to look in Disk Management (duh). The problem was that a network drive got newly mapped to the same drive letter that the USB reader was assigned to previously. I changed the mappings in Disk Management to remove the conflict and voila, the USB drive is back in the drive listing in My Computer. Thanks again!
