This problem has plagued me since not long after installing XPPro SP2 when it came
out. I've found more USEFUL information on this thread than anywhere else.
My situation appears to be fixed. I Disabled UPnP and SSDP Discovery Services plus
added the explorer registry key. I also found success using the free r2 Startup
Delayer after disabling the services but before adding the registry entry. In the
end I chose to go without Startup Delayer because I change my software configuration
often, which would be complicated by the Delayer setup. BTW, I could never get Bootvis
to complete a run without crashing.
So far, so good. Thanks to everyone for the very productive discussion!
