Windows Xp Crashing -installing a new OS?

Hy, I have a Windows XP home edition...
The computer has plenty of Memory, and hard drive space.. . The computer crashes
all the time! When we want to use it we have to wait 30 minutes or more if were lucky
we can start it in 5-10 minutes.. When it does turn on we have to be very carful
and not to click anything else because it will frezze. When it frezzes we have to
unplug it or press the power buttong for some time.. --I know it's not good--
When it does turn on qe can use it for 1 hour maybe.. we cannot print anything..
nor do nothing with pictures.. we installed a printer. and we canot use it with the
pc.. so where thinking of installing another OS, like Linux --it's cheap-- we want
to install it on the hard drive. If it doesnt work my sister will just have to buy
another PC. When we got the computer --from a "Friend" it had lots of ugly stuff
-- porn-- on the hard drive. I deleted everything.. but there were some stuff that
couldn't be deleted.. so now we dont let anyone use that computer cause lots of ugly
stuff will appear on the screen and we have to unplug it cause if we click to close
the ugly window it will frezze and stay with the image on the screen. So I don;t
know if it's a virus, a flaw in the OS or what.. I already order the Linux software..
It's says that it's just like Xp I now it's not true but at this point I don't care.
I just want to get it fixed. So should I erase the winxp,? Install Linux,? Run a
virus check,? or take it to be fixed,? or Just buy a new computer?
