System: XP Pro SP2 Dell Precision 670 with Intel(R) PRO/1000 MTW Network Connection connected by straight through CAT5 to 3Com Home Ethernet Gateway (and ultimately to cable modem) Solved: Network Cable Unplugged message by setting Advanced Properties on network connection for Link Speed and Duplex from "Auto Detect" to "10Mbps/Full Duplex" The problem had virtually brought internet browsing to standstill, but now back to surfing, Thanks.
