This thread has been going on for years, but I just found it, and it helped me.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5160. Everything was woking fine until I added, on the same
day, a Logitech MX610 wireless mouse and a Linksys wireless router. After I added
those, my laptop would not go to standby when I shut the top nor would the fan turn
off. I sent seven to eight hours trying to the fix the problem. I was on the phone
with my local ISP, Dell, and Linksys. I never suspected the mouse. Each person said
it was someone else's problem. Dell wanted me to wipe my hard drive and start from
scratch! How may hours would that take! So I kept playing around with my settings
and searching the web. I found this discussion link and did the following.
I have Windows XP. I went to:
Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Hardware (tab) and highlighted Logitech Mouse > Properties
> Power Management (tab) > de-selected "Allow this device to bring the computer out
of standby." I then shut my computer down for the night (because I had been using
it all day and it was hot - even with the fan running). Then next day all was back
to normal!
Thanks!
Dave
