FOUND THE PROBLEM!
I am running WinXp also and had working audio devices in control panel. Found the
PNP enumerator, but still no device in speakers or media player. Found out that
in control panel, administrative tools, computer management, services and apps, services,
windows audio had been turned off. I reset to auto and started service and it works
fine now!
I belive this occured during one of my service pack updates, which I apply regularly,
Good Luck, dawadester
