Having had the same problem mup.sys, I started reading.

I disabled mup.sys in recovery mode (I could then boot to xp but the system stopped
responding, usually after being left unused)

So read some more: flashed the bios
same problem (stopped responding) so now i know the bios was not corrupt, it had
been working for years from the last time I flashed it, so the saved bios was good.

Saw someone say they replaced everything except the install disk, cdrom and cables.
Disk is either good or not.. it works or dont, so that is ok. cables are the same
thing, they work or dont work.
soo I dis-connected my cdrom.
same problem

I changed from my used pentium 3, 733, back to the P3 533 I had origionally.

NO PROBLEM... but thats not a solution, having saw a couple posts about 2 bad processors?
Not likely. Its like winning the big lotto prize 2 weeks running.
besides, it WAS working with the 733 before.
So, I put it back in.

Same problem. (system stopped responding withing minutes, but did boot to windows
while i was checking system properties) *note* also... for some reason MUP is RUNNING
(started) again, BUT the system booted into windows... and has been for over a week.
So power off (reset button) then:

the specs of mobo, processor, and ram)

Thus far, the system is running and stable.
Conclusions: 1) Try disabling the numeric data processor (seemed to work ok before
though)
2) Increase the voltage by the max 10% (keep an eye on your system temp, etc)

Maybe this fixed it, maybe not. But it hasn't as of yet stopped responding. I will
leave it on and see what happens.

*note.. cdrom is still disconnected, I rarely use it, I have a cdrw.
