Hardware or software issue?

I keep getting machine_check_exception BSOD's when I plug USB devices into my mobo.
Sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it is a few minutes to an hour later
that it happens. I am running XP Pro and the mobo is less than a year old. It is
an Asus K8V-SE deluxe board that I thought was pretty good. This problem only started
about a month ago and it happens with my digital camera, MP3 player, and external
hard drive. The only thing that seems not to trigger the problem is my printer.
So how would I determine whether this is hardware or software related? Should I
just buy a new mobo and hope that fixes the problem?
