New installation of XP causing network problems

I just reinstalled windows XP home and I'm having more problems. XP keeps telling
me i already have a connection made, but there's nothing there in "my connections"
of my network places. Also, when I try to set up a home network, it tells me I don't
have all the right hardware, which I most certainly have. That computer was set
up on a network before I reinstalled and I had everything then.

The only thing that I can think of is that I moved that little network card (not
even being used) when I put in my new HDD controller PCI card. It's possible that
windows doesn't like my network card to be in a different PCI slot.

Anyways, does anybody have any ideas as to how I can set up my internet connection?
Having to use this computer is a pain seeing as it's older and is quite a bit slower...
