It's a loud, highpitched, long, continuous beeeeeeeppp. - When you press F2 upon seeing the black screen with white text, does the computer then start up properly? Yes. And are you then able to use it OK without any other problems? Yes. - Does the same thing as you described occur if you boot into safe mode? I haven't booted into safe mode. - What kind and make of computer? hp pavilion 7920 (is that what you need?)
