Need help with spyware/virus problem plz help me

Hi, My name is Ron. And recently (few days ago) my brother downloaded Surfsidekick
3 not realizing what he was doing and inadvertantley installed a very malicious piece
of spyware. He wasn't able to fix it and dropped his laptop off at my place to see
what i could do. Now I'm pretty sure I've fixed most of the problems with the machine
but i just cant seem to get one last pop-up program to go away. I know for a fact
this computer has virus's on it but i tried running a virus scan with up to date
norton anti-virus but it found about 52 files then the computer randomly turned off.
I booted it back up started the scan again and within about 2 minutes of it running
it shut down again. The computer is a laptop plugged into the socket, and connected
to the internet. I've done everything i can and i'm just stumped, any help would
be greatly appreciated.
