If you have been messing around with this for a week then there is a good chance 
that you will need to do a clean install. But before you do that I would suggest 
that you copy all your important data onto CDs/DVDs. You will need to boot off your 
XP CD and follow the instructions. The suggestion made by the previous poster re 
link is well worth following.
