Thanks for all information in this thread. It took some hours to follow it, but there
where a lot of helpful ideas.
My problem was: no boot of Windows 2K (stopping at Mup.sys in safe mode), neither
from harddisk nor from CD (Setup). Memtest showed no problems. Even a testsoftware
'Toolstar' with own OS worked fine and gave no error messages during a long time
check.
My system:
MSI KT4A-V
AMD Sempron 2800+
Following some thread information, I tried to fix escd by clearing cmos, flashing
bios, modified FSB and VCore and disabled all unnecessary options. No success. Lucky
guy, I had a second identical PC, so I started exchanging components: memory, harddisk,
graphics, mainboard.
At the end, I found my problem. After changing the processor, everything works fine.
The same processor in my second PC also doesn't work. So it seems, this processor
works in principle (because Toolstar has an intensive processor check with no error
messages), but there might be at all a small problem which leads Windows to stop
the system.
Perhaps it's helpful to somebody.
Good luck for all members of Mup club!
