Thank you for your response. I found the "customize tray" applet at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article05-425 and I thought it might enable me to solve my problem. I don't think my computer is infected because I have run my (up to date) anti-virus software and the Ad-aware anti-spyware program. The problem now is that the icon in the tray (right hand side of desktop) is telling me that my computer is infected. This trouble started when a program called Pest Trap arrived on my computer and I believe that Pest Trap is malware, is that correct?
