Disabling Autoplay for ALL removable media Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:50 am Windows XP Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by Andrew (12 messages posted) Another way to disable autoplay in XP (don't know if this works in other versions of Windows) is to click Start -> Run -> type "msconfig" -> click the Services tab -> and uncheck the selection called "Shell Hardware Detection". This will disable autoplay for not only all of your CD-ROM drives, but any other form of removable media (ie memory cards from your digital camera).
