I had the same problem, and the ONLY SOLUTION that worked for me was to delete the
program file, MSACCESS.EXE from the Office11 subfolder (or depending on the Office
version you have, it may be named Office10 or Office9) under the "c:/Program Files/Microsft
Office/" folder
-AND-
deleting ALL instances of SYSTEM.MDW (repeated tries at installing may produce System1.mdw,
System2.mdw, etc.). This file is found in the "c:\Documents and Settings\{your user
name}\Application Data\Microsoft\Access" folder for WINXP, and the C:\Program Files\Common
Files\SYSTEM" folder
for earlier WIN versions.
