Many thanks Rick for your message. I spent hours trying to find what made msmsgs.exe
resuscitate each time I attempted to kill it. I analyzed the Windows Registry to
death, removing all what I could find that could potentially cause msmsgs.exe to
launch. I did also extensive search on the internet to find an answer to the mystery.
Only when I finally found your message and applied your advice did the phoenix finally
died and stopped to reborn systematically from its ashes.
One thing I noticed in my previous failled attempts to kill the ever reincarnating
msmsgs.exe, was that the process was automatically terminated and immediately restarted
every two minutes. Why did Symantec come up with such a curious mechanism? One would
think, that, as long as Windows Messenger is not running on the machine (which is
my launch configuration), there does not seem to be a need for Norton Antivirus to
monitor Windows Messenger by launching a “ghost” msmsgs.exe process (which is done
under an instantiation of svchost.exe) and to automatically close it and restart
it every two minutes. Is it not a waist of CPU and memory resources?
