I have networked two computers, a desktop, and a laptop. Both using Win XP. Desktop works fine. Desktop Network Places shows all shared folders and printers on both computers....textbook! Laptop Network Places only shows shared items that are on that laptop, and none that are shared on the desktop. Clicking the network icon for the Desktop Network icon, reveals that ole nasty message, that ends with acces denied. I can map a network drive on the laptop, to a "Shared" folder that I created on the desktop, and every folder that I shared, and copied into the "Shared" folder, can be accessed with no problem. So I can share files, and printers using a Mapped Network Drive. So you might wonder what my problem is.......well, I don't have a problem sharing between the Desktop and the Laptop, however, I have been working for 4 weeks trying to get the Home Network to function exactly like it should, without having to generate a Mapped Network Drive . Firewalls, Zone Alarm, Norton, and Counterspy are on and functioning on the Desktop. Turning them all off, or on, don't make one bit of difference when it comes to sharing files and folders. Same on the laptop. However in attempting to resolve the problem, I have turned them all off, and on 50 times, and it doesn't seem to make any difference, either way.Same on the laptop. I can connect to either of the computers in the Computer Management program(right click) on the Computer Management window, and select "connect to the other computer" on both the desktop and the laptop. I can ping both computers, in both directions. Apparently, Windows XP Pro, can overcome this problem. Or at least that what I have been able to discern from four days of reading information on the web, but nobody has seem to come up with a solution for Windows XP home. I have read and tried out all the suggestions about firewalls, open ports, TCP/IP suggestions, Zone Alarm, Norton, registry changes, theMMCConsole, and fifty other ideas, and believe me, they don't work. I have read at least sixty other forum entries about folks that have the identical problem, but nobody, that knows anything about the problem, has come up with any suggestion that resolves the situation. I'm sure that is because they haven't really resolved the problem themselves, just make suggestions about how they think that the problem "might" be resolved. If anybody has faced this problem and had it resolved, I would really appreciate a reply on how they did it. After four weeks of about six hours a day on working on this one, I could really use some help. Suggestions are nice, but I am really looking for a solution that works, without a doubt. Signed, Desperate in Florida
