I have a similar problem. No volume control icon in my taskbar, and I can't add it
by going through control panel etc.
I can only control volume by going through the control panel, and the most annoying
thing is my mute and volume control buttons on the side of my laptop (which I use
all the time) are now not working.
I have tried searching for sndvol32.exe and I do have it in system32, also just tried
expanding it from my windows XP cd, and it hasn't fixed the problem. Tried reinstalling
the relevant driver from a "Driver Recovery CD" that also came with the laptop and
again no luck. Any ideas anyone?
