I haven't found a solution for this but in reply to this comment...
I probably type the equivalent of a 20,000 word report every day between emails,
sales presentation and special projects.
There is most certainly some kind of keyboard combination (ctl-alt-???) that causes
the computer to enable "overtype mode." This goes beyond the Insert key enabling
that mode. If it were JUST the insert key, I could live with it. What pisses me off
is when I'm typing away merrily, NOWHERE NEAR the insert key, I'm suddenly replacing
text. That is what I'm trying to track down and disable.
BTW: this seems most common in Outlook/OE, though that's perhaps because I spend
a lot of time in those applications.
