What has worked for me in the past month is: Tools - Folder Options - View - Advanced
options - Files and Folders - Do not cache thumbnails (check). I haven't gone down
on an error since I made that change, even with folders containing hundreds of .jpg
images, or dozens of .avi and .mpg movies.
