I have had the same problem since early 10-15-2004 to the present (10-16-2006); when
opening a directory in Windows Explorer with more than 20 jpgs it, Explorer sometimes
crashes. I have also had other applications crash in these directories; most frequently
with Microsoft Movie Maker and PhotoStory 3 for windows. Has anyone heard of a fix
for this? It also sometimes crashes Adobe Photoshop 6.0, Adobe Photoshop Elements,
Adobe Writer 4.0, Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 and 2.0. when opening a file from a
directory with many jpg's in it (Adobe is less sensitive to the same graphics directories
than the Microsoft Products -- If I open a directory with just a few graphics files
in it PhotoStory 3 does not crash). I use Norton anti-virus on one computer and CA
antivirus on another computer on a different network --both anti-virus's find no
virus issues. Does it sound like a jpg virus or worm? Can anyone you help on this?
It must effect many users. I use Window XP Professional on both machines with 15%
free disk space -both have problems with graphics directories.
P.S.:This started after a return trip from Europe in which I uploaded CD of pics
I'd taken on my camera -- these jpg and mov files were downloaded from my SD chips
to CD by local photo shops in Nice, Paris, Venice and Rome. Perhaps Adobe is using
lot of scratch disk but this problem occurs in Explorer and MS app's as well.
