This is baffelling and MADDENING! UGGHHH ! ! !
OK, I feel better now. Phewwwwww!
Here's the skinny . . . Never had this issue before. Using XP Pro for about 3 yrs.
And I'm pretty 'puter savvy.
Yesterday I booted up. No speaker icon in systray. For me, that's a problem as
I produce music on my PC and need to switch back and forth from mic to WYHIWYG for
recording internally thru midi devices.
Went to Cntl Pannel. Audio, yadda yadda. Clicked on "show icon" button. Got the
following error message . . .
Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control
program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control
Panel.
Huh?
I went there and don't see any such program.
So I openned Programs/Accessories/Entertainment so I could click the Volume Control
link there. I NEED to get into my audio control pannel!
NO WAY! Now there's no Volume Control listed in Entertainment!
I've done all the obvious. Rebooted. Logged out and back in. No go!
Also, my puter is as clean as can be. Perfectly maintained. Swept clean with pro
gear routinely. Defragged often. Last night I went thru the whole process again
just to be sure.
Clean as a whistle!
The only resolution I can think of would be reinstalling XP Pro. But I don't know
if that'll work. Plus I just moved, and all my disks are packed away in a storage
locker. UGGHHHH!
I have a demo that needs to get done pronto. And I'm up a stinky creek with no paddle!
