I powered up the spare computer I have today with IE7, and went to MSN web page.
The Butterfly Favicon that MSN uses returned, So it appears that the custom icons
don't stick if a Web site has a favicon when you make a return visit.
As for the sites that don't use a favicon, and just get the generic Blue e,
I was able to change the favicon to a custom one. The Change took effect when I closed,
and reopened IE.
I went back to visit the Site, and the Custom Icon seemed to stick. Even rebooted,
and the custom Icon is still inplace. Like other versions of IE when clearing cache
all the favicons disappeared, but my one custom Icon for the site that didn't use
favicon remained.
Read MS has really tried to solve favicon problems with IE 7 because of all the
problems Users had over the years, but it still seems pretty buggy to me. Good luck.
