ICS will not work with Kerio Firewall

My husband and I share our internet connection and files using a crossover cable.
We have Windows XP home with modems. He is the host for sharing, and has been using
ZA for a firewall. I have been using Kerio. We have had no problems. I just switched
our antivirus programs from AVG to Avast. When I switched mine our network connections
still worked as always. Then I switched his antivirus to Avast...but Avast has an
issue with ZA, so I uninstalled ZA and installed a trial of Kerio on his machine.
Everything still worked with no problems. Suddenly, if we want to share the internet
connection we have to disable Kerio firewall on both computers. I contacted Kerio
support, and they advised me to disable only mine, since I am connecting through
his, and that worked....but only for a few minutes. Then I lost my connection. And
now the only way I can connect through him is to turn off both our Kerio Firewalls.
I am pretty limited in my knowledge of computers...like a newby, so would appreciate
any advise here. If you need more information, let me know.
